JORDAN Man’s Headscarf (Keffiyeh)

The headcloth or ghutra worn by men across the Middle East was originally worn by Bedouins, the desert nomads of Arabia to protect the face from the sand and sun. Checkered (shmagh) or plain white (ghutra), the keffiyeh covers a skullcap and is held in place by an agal, a black cord.
