PAKISTAN Kalash Headdress (Shushut)

The Kalash people are non-Muslims who inhabit isolated valleys of northeast Pakistan. The headdresses worn by Kalash women and girls serve to distinguish them from the many Islamic ethnic groups in the region. Still worn today, the Shushut identifies the wearer as Kalash, and is an essential component of a woman’s daily attire.
