PAKISTAN Kalash Hood (Kupa)
The Kalash people live in the mountainous northeastern part of Pakistan and have maintained a unique culture that is distinct from the rest of the country. The Kupa, a formal piece of women’s headwear, is worn atop the Shushut (a decorative headdress) at festivals and for special occasions. The cowrie shells are believed to have magical powers, ensuring a woman’s fertility, and are also worn to avert the evil eye.
