CONGO Luba tribe, Diviner’s hat (Nkaka)

A Nkaka is worn by male and female diviner’s for telling the future through supernatural means. Diviners enter a trance and act as a medium for ancestors or spirits to speak through them to onlookers. The beadwork draws attention to the forehead, alluding to the wearer’s powers of perception, wisdom and intellect.
